The fast path using Finder

Since the release of macOS Sierra it is possible to use the following:

  • Open the Finder application
  • Press CMD + SHIFT + .
Pressing it again will hide the files.

The long path using the Terminal

For older versions of the mac OSX use the following:

  • Open the Terminal application
  • Paste the following code into the Terminaldefaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles YESCopy code to the clipboard
  • Press the return key
Changing the command from YES to NO will hide the files.
